Beach community earns Night Out award

Chief of Police, Robert Hardwick, informed local Historic City News reporters that the City of St. Augustine Beach was selected as a National Award Winner for its outstanding participation in the “30th Anniversary National Night Out” crime, drug and violence prevention program.

The award is presented by the National Association of Town Watch, an organization whose mission is to help neighborhoods everywhere bring back a sense of community and cooperation with law enforcement.

“Winning this award was a team effort,” Hardwick, told local reporters. “More than a dozen state and local law enforcement agencies were involved in the planning and execution.”

This award honors the city’s efforts in hosting the August 6, 2013 “National Night Out” at Beach Pier Park. St Augustine Beach is a first time winner in cities with a population under 15,000. The City of St. Augustine Beach joins only three other cities in State of Florida to win this national honor in 2013. The other Florida cities are Orlando, Temple Terrace and Palm Beach Gardens.

Hardwick remarked that the City of St. Augustine Beach is honored to be a host city and is looking forward to the next National Night Out, August 5, 2014.
