Leadership St Johns Class of 2014 announced to Historic City News that they will host the first annual community Volunteer Expo; featuring exhibitor booths, food vendors, live music and even special prize giveaways, on April 12th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the St Augustine Beach Pier Park.
Those who attend the fun, family-friendly event will have an opportunity to meet representatives from more than 30 local, nonprofit organizations eager to meet potential new volunteers. The Expo will provide the unique opportunity to learn about their missions and identify potential volunteer opportunities that match your personal talents and interests.
“Volunteering is a great way to have fun, makes new friends, and has an impact in our community,” Leadership St Johns class member, Chad Mark, explained to local reporters. “New and existing residents, families and retirees will learn how they can get more involved in our community through volunteering.” Mark is a vice president with Advanced Disposal.
Leadership St Johns is an educational program of the St Johns County Chamber of Commerce, seeking to enhance the leadership skills of executives from the private, public and non-profit sectors. Each class develops a community service project to fill a need in the community during its class year.
Admission to Volunteer St Johns is free and all events are open to the public. Guests are invited to bring a new toiletry item; such as a bar of soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, comb or brush, being collected to support youth who are aging out of foster care and who will soon be living independently. Collection bins for donated items will be available at the Expo registration tables.
The Leadership St Johns Class of 2014 has organized this special event to connect local residents who have an interest in making a difference in our community with local non-profit organizations which rely on the service of volunteers to help meet community challenges.
