Coastal Breeding Birds lecture at Marineland

Stefanie M. Nagid, Audubon Florida Northeast Policy Associate, has invited Historic City News readers to a special free lecture, “Coastal Breeding Birds of Northeast Florida” on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The event will be hosted by The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve at the Marineland Field Office located off SR-A1A at 9741 Ocean Shore Boulevard in the Town of Marineland.

Nagid will discuss basic bird identification and habitat needs of some common beach-nesting birds, relate examples of successful intervention, and suggest ways to prevent human and bird conflicts. Many shorebirds use the beaches, dunes, and coastline to raise their young between April and August — at the same time when humans enjoy the beaches.

This program is one of an ongoing “Third-Tuesday-of-the-Month Lecture Series” designed to help inform the public about their coastal natural world. Space is limited and reservations are requested.
