At least one dead in multi-vehicle crash and fire

Fire Rescue apparatus is still on the scene of a multi-vehicle accident at the 300 mile-marker of I-95, southbound, in St Johns County; according to the most recent update received by Historic City News from St Johns County Fire Rescue.

Upon arrival crews found two semi-trailers, fully involved in fire, along with several passenger vehicles engaged in the traffic melee. Florida Highway Patrol spokesman, Dillon Bryan, advises readers to anticipate these closures to be in effect for several hours. FHP will advise Historic City News when they are reopened.

Detour for I-95 northbound is west on SR-100 to US-1 north in Flagler County and at I-95 MM273 in Volusia County to US-1 north. Detour for I-95 south is at US-1 (MM298) in St Johns County to US-1 south in Volusia County.

According to Jeremy Robshaw, emergency medical personnel began triage efforts for the operators and passengers of the vehicles involved. An aggressive attack on the flames has proceeded in tandem with medical treatment for victims of the collisions and fire.

Robshaw told Historic City New that a total of five (5) patients have been treated by St Johns County Fire Rescue. Identities of victims and patients have not been released as of 10:00 p.m., pending notification of families.

What we do know at this hour is that there has been one reported fatality, one trauma alert transported by air ambulance to UF Health Jacksonville in serious condition, as well as three patients stabilized and transported to Flagler Hospital in St Augustine in stable condition.

“We still have active fire and emergency activities on the scene,” Robshaw told reporters. “Motorists traveling in the area should expect delays and travel with caution.”

The Florida Highway Patrol will be conducting the traffic homicide investigation and crash investigations from this incident.
