The public is invited to the ceremony on Aviles St. between King St. and Artillery Ln. Following the ceremony, businesses along Aviles St. will host the Fiesta de Aviles through the day and into Friday night with a wide variety of activities including live music by Lonesome Bert and Skinny Lizard. On July 31, 2010, Brilliance In Color Gallery will open “Blancos” (Whites), anexhibition of paintings by contemporary Spanish figurative painter, Royo. Thisexhibition comprises 35 new oil paintings on canvas together with a selection ofdrawings, bronze sculptures and serigraphs. Royo has passionately and wholeheartedlydedicated the last 30 years of his career to the same subject matter: the femaleform. He is inspired by many historical periods from the Old Masters, such asVelazquez and Goya, to the 19th-century Impressionists, such as Sorolla. This newcollection of paintings combines formal elements with a subtlety of the contemporarymaster’s eye. In this collection of Royo’s paintings, subjects are depicted by avast range of different whites, applied with a broken-color technique used to createa dramatic light across the painting. The “whites are composed of a thousandwhites”, as Royo notes.
