Historic City News local reporters were informed on October 3, 2014 that St Augustine City Manager, John Regan, had submitted the official account of findings from a Procedural Review of the 62-A Spanish Street Building Collapse that included the interviews and report prepared by Tim Burchfield, Assistant City Manager, to the elected members of the City Commission.
The report shows that former mayor Len Weeks ignored rules and warnings from the planning and building department regarding steps necessary to protect the exposed foundation of the historic Don Pedro Fornells house, originally constructed over 200-years ago. The historic building collapsed after a string of reckless actions by Weeks, a licensed contractor practicing in the city for the past 30 or more years,
The report absolves city employees from any wrongdoing in the incident; rather finding that they followed established procedures for such development.
Weeks currently serves as Chairman of the Historic Architectural Review Board, some of whose rules Weeks failed to follow, the report reveals.
