Master Sergeant Thomas E Kielbasa reported to Historic City News that this afternoon at 3:00 p.m., officers and veterans of the Vietnam War will be honored by the Florida National Guard during a command retreat ceremony at the St Francis Barracks parade field.
In addition to the Florida National Guard officer and enlisted formations on the parade field, a special platoon made up of Vietnam veterans from St. Johns County will form up for the ceremony Friday, November 7, 2014 at 3:00 p.m.
The event is open to the public. If you would like to attend the commemoration, go to the Florida National Guard Headquarters, located at 82 Marine Street, in St Augustine. Parking at the event is limited, but free parking and a shuttle, to and from the event, will start at 1:30 p.m. at the Elks Lodge 829, 1420 US-1 South, St. Augustine.
The Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War was established by President Barack Obama on May 25, 2012 to begin a 13-year program to “honor and give thanks” to Vietnam veterans.
