After losing in the General Election to Lincolnville resident, Nancy Shaver, outgoing Mayor Joe Boles will preside over his last meeting of the St Augustine City Commission Monday night, November 10, 2014. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, Historic City News was informed that there will be no second meeting of the commission in November.
At a reorganization meeting of the city commission, Monday, December 1st, Boles and interim commissioner, Don Crichlow, both step down. At that meeting, their replacements, Nancy Shaver and Todd Neville, will be joined by current Vice Mayor Nancy Sikes-Kline, for a “swearing in” ceremony. The newly organized commission will name one of the commissioners to serve as vice-mayor for the 450th Commemoration year.
Mayor-elect Nancy Shaver is only the second female mayor to serve the citizens of St Augustine. Ramelle Petroglou was selected by her fellow commissioners to serve as mayor; two times between 1981 and 1985. Shaver is the first woman to be elected mayor directly by the voters.
While Shaver and Neville are newcomers to the commission table, Sikes-Kline has been on the commission for the past six years. She is beginning her second, 4-year-term. She previously held a 2-year-term as commissioner.
