Letter: Support the people who elected you

Dear Editor:
Republicans have just experienced a perfect example of electing politicians to represent us, the people; however, when those officials assume their elected positions, they “Pledge” to represent the “Leadership” of their party, not the people who elected them.
This practice definitely applies to both parties whose leadership decides which representatives and senators will get the favored positions.
Republicans in St Johns County are facing a situation in Florida Senate District 6 where we will elect a new Senator to replace John Thrasher; who was just re-elected, but resigned his seat to take another job.
We also have two recently re-elected State Representatives to replace; because they resigned their seats in the hope of replacing Senator Thrasher.
Both of these Representatives have already signed “Pledges” that, if elected, they will support the “Leadership” in the Senate — not the people who elected them.
That is why I support Dennis McDonald who has refused to sign this “Pledge” and has no allegiance except to the people who will vote for him.
We need to make our representatives accountable to the voters, not the leadership’s Political Action Committees; whether here in Florida or in Washington, D.C.
