Yesterday morning, about 9:30 a.m., Historic City News was informed that police were called to a location along the riverbank, north of the San Sebastian River Bridge, after two fishermen reported finding human skeletal remains.
According to the incident report filed by Detective Jennifer Trotzke, the area appears to be an abandoned transient camp.
“We believe this person has been deceased for about a year,” Trotzke told local news reporters. “The District 23 Medical Examiner will collect as much forensic evidence possible, however, police at the scene have been unable to locate any form of identification.”
The St. Augustine Police Department needs your help identifying these remains in order that the family may be contacted. There has been no report of obvious foul-play, more will be known upon the completion of the autopsy.
If you have any information that will lead to the identification of this person or know details about the circumstances surrounding the death, you can come forward and still remain anonymous. You may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000 by contacting Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 1-888-277-TIPS (8477).
