Lane closures around Bridge of Lions

Laurie Sanderson in the public information office for the Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation project reported to Historic City News that each night from 9:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. starting Sunday night, September 12, 2010 and ending Friday morning, September 17, 2010, traffic lanes will be closed at the intersection of Avenida Menendez with King Street and Cathedral Place.

Another set of nightly lane closures from 9:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. will begin Sunday, September 19, 2010 and continue through Friday morning, September 24, 2010. During these closures, one lane will remain open on the main thoroughfares of King Street, Cathedral Place and Avenida Menendez.

The one-way side streets of Charlotte Street and Marine Street may occasionally lose direct access to the main streets during these paving operations.

These lane closures accommodate milling and paving operations to apply the final layer of asphalt at the intersections as part of the Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation Project. Pedestrian access will be maintained, and marine traffic will not be affected during this work.

Florida Department of Transportation began the rehabilitation project in February 2005. The rehabilitated Bridge of Lions opened March 17, 2010. The temporary bridge has been removed, and remaining project work includes roadwork and completion of the parks at the east and west ends of the Bridge of Lions.
