Plan for the Colonial Arts and Crafts Fair

Historic City News readers are invited to attend when on Saturday, October 9th, and Sunday, October 10th, the Colonial Spanish Quarter will open their doors for the 22nd Annual Colonial Arts and Crafts Fair.

See colonial craftspeople from throughout Florida demonstrate lost arts such as indigo dying, palmetto broom making, black work, lace making, woodcarving, and metal arts. Over 30 colonial craftspeople will be available to explain the techniques and history of each colonial craft.

Admission is $1.00 for adults, ages 12 and under free. There will also be special heritage arts and crafts activities for children. Entrance to the festival is at 29 St. George Street, the pedestrian friendly street in the heart of the historic colonial city, or on Avenida Menéndez directly across from the Castillo de San Marcos. The 22nd Annual Colonial Arts and Crafts Fair is produced by the City of St. Augustine’s Department of Heritage Tourism with assistance from the Textile Guild of St. Augustine and support from The St. Johns County Tourist Development Council.

Textile Guild of St. Augustine

Founded in 1995 by Nancy Garrard and Irene Toruella, the Textile Guild’s purpose is to teach and preserve textile techniques of the past centuries for future generations. The non-profit group has over 25 members and annually participates in the Colonial Arts and Crafts Fair.
