St Augustine Police Department boasts four promotions

Historic City News reporting that Police Chief Loran K Lueders presided over a promotion ceremony at the St Augustine Police Department that included internal promotions ranging from corporal to assistant chief; marking a momentous benchmark in the Department’s history.

The promotions of Barry E. Fox, Anthony W. Cuthbert, Michael T. Castaing and Chris Miller ranged in scale from Corporal to Assistant Chief, with responsibilities reaching from oversight in the Patrol and Operations Divisions to Assistant Chief of Police.

“Each of you are bound by a common oath, to protect and serve the people of St Augustine while leading our officers in the nation’s Oldest City,” said Chief Loran Lueders at the event. “This is not an idle boast; it’s a fact. The skills and education levels of the officers of St Augustine Police Department have allowed an easy adaptation to the ever-changing crime environment we face on a daily basis.”

In their current roles, Commander Barry E. Fox, Sergeant Anthony Cuthbert, Corporal Michael Castaing and Officer Chris Miller each stepped to the podium to receive new insignia and congratulations in the significant ceremony attended by their fellow officers, friends, family and members of the St Augustine City Commission.

“This is a very rewarding day, both in the history of the St Augustine Police Department and for me personally,” said Lueders. “No event inspires more hope or confidence in all of us than to see the forward progression of our own, and these newly promoted individuals are the reason why. They give us faith in the future direction of this department. Each of these men could have chosen any number of career paths, but they placed service to the public and the St Augustine Police Department above all else. I am immensely proud of them as individuals and the achievements that have brought them to these promotions.”

The mission of the City of St. Augustine Police Department is to enforce laws, provide a safe and secure environment and respond to the changing needs of the community in order to promote a positive and peaceful quality of life for citizens and visitors within the Nation’s Oldest City.

Boasting a force of 52 full-time sworn officers and auxiliary reserve staff and operating under an annual budget of $5.4 million, the Department functions under the direction of the Chief of Police, Loran K. Lueders, supplemented by one assistant Chief and two unit commanders (Operations & Administrative Services) who oversee the multi-functional and diverse aspects of the organization.
