This year in Florida, four Supreme Court justices and 27 appellate judges serving in the five District Courts of Appeal are on the November ballot in merit-retention elections.
Also, four judicial candidates are competing for a seat on Florida’s 7th Judicial Circuit, which combines St. Johns, Flagler, Volusia and a portion of Putnam County,
As far as the judicial candidates in the 7th Circuit goes, on October 11, 2010 the Republican Club of Greater St. Augustine has arranged for all four candidates to attend a forum where they will have the chance to meet, greet and address the attendees. Folks will have the chance to speak to the candidates one-on-one before the forum starts at 7:00 PM.
The event will be held at the St. Augustine Airport Special Events Center Casa Cola Way, St. Augustine. Membership in the Republican Club is not required to attend this event.
Republican Club President, Gary Bruce, told Historic City News, “The goal is to educate the public about the candidates and the issues and to encourage everyone to get out the vote.”
And, as far as the Supreme Court justices and DCA judges goes, The Florida Bar has biographies and photos as well as answers to frequently asked questions about merit retention on their website at www.FloridaBar.org.
To help the public learn more about those elections, The Florida Bar has also published the results of their poll concerning the justices and judges.
The Florida Bar representative, Doris Maffei, told Historic City News, “If you do not have Internet access and want a copy of the biographical pamphlets with the FAQs about the jurists on the ballot, please call at (850) 561-5670 and copies will be mailed to you free of charge as a public service.”
