Mason to address midterm elections at Flagler

Washington Examiner White House Correspondent Julie Mason will be the next speaker in the 2010-2011 Flagler College Forum on Government and Public Policy according to an announcement received by Historic City News today.

Mason will speak November 4th, at 7:00 p.m., in the Flagler College Auditorium. Her topic will be “Midterms: Middle America, the White House, the Election Results.”

Prior to joining the Examiner in 2008, Mason spent 20 years at the Houston Chronicle, including four years as the newspaper’s White House correspondent, and four years prior to that as national political correspondent.

She is a veteran of three presidential campaigns and more than a decade covering the local and state political scene in Texas. Career highlights also include covering the 9/11 attacks, and Washington debate over the lead-up to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mason is an at-large board member of the White House Correspondents Association. In 1997, her work covering affirmative action was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. Mason is a frequent contributor to CNN, MSNBC, NBC News, NPR and more.

She is a native of Massachusetts and believes that if politicians can’t be honest, they should at least be entertaining.

For more than 30 years, the Flagler College Forum on Government and Public Policy has invited nationally recognized journalists and commentators to St. Augustine to discuss issues of importance in regional, state and federal government. All forums take place in the Flagler College Auditorium, located at 14 Granada Street. Forums are free and open to the public, but seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign language interpreters are provided.
