The St. Augustine City Commission held its organizational meeting on Monday, December 1st as friends and supporters gathered in The Alcazar Room at City Hall to witness the event.
Departing Commissioners Susan Burk and George Gardner offered remarks and thanks to the community for its support during their years of service on the Commission. Burk has been a member of the Commission since 1996 and served as Vice Mayor 2005-2006. Gardner joined the Commission as Mayor in 2002 and then was elected to a two year term as Commissioner in 2006.
Seventh Judicial Circuit Judge J. Michael Traynor administered the oath of office to newly re-elected Mayor Joseph Boles, reelected Commissioner Errol Jones and newly elected Commissioner Nancy Sikes-Kline. Leanna Freeman, also a newly elected Commissioner, was unable to attend the meeting and will be sworn in at the Commission’s first regular meeting on December 8 at 5:00 p.m.
As each took the oath, they were accompanied by members of their family; for Mayor Boles it was his mother, Maurine Boles, and his fiancé, Jane Masson; for Commissioner Jones it was family members Joyce Ramsey and Erica Jones; and for Commissioner Nancy Sikes-Kline it was her husband, Roger Kline, her sons Luke and Jacob, and her step father, Dr. Henry Bates.
As prescribed in the city’s charter, the commission holds its initial meeting at 7:30 p.m. on the first Monday in December following each regular municipal election.
