Historic City News readers are invited to attend and participate when The Tolomato Cemetery Preservation Association presents special guest speaker Sarah Miller, Regional Director of the Florida Public Archaeology Network based at Flagler College. Miller will lead a pre-St Patrick’s Day discussion on the Irish influence in Florida from its earliest days.
Miller reports that there are many Irish families buried at Tolomato Cemetery, some of them very important in Florida’s history. In addition, she will present a look at Irish cemeteries and discuss her recent archaeological work while traveling in Ireland.
To participate, the presentation is scheduled to begin on Saturday March 16, 2019 at 12:00 noon at Tolomato Cemetery, located at 14 Cordova Street, south of Orange Street, in St Augustine.
Reservations are not necessary for the free presentation expected to last about an hour. Following the presentation, a special tour of the Irish graves at Tolomato Cemetery will be offered to introduce visitors to this lesser-known aspect of St. Augustine’s history.
