In honor of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day 2010, many Historic City News readers will join Florida Governor Charlie Crist by lowering their U.S. and state flags on December 7th.
“On December 7, 1941, more than 2,400 American men and women lost their lives defending our nation at Pearl Harbor,” Crist said. “Today is a time to honor their selfless service, as well as those who survived that perilous day.”
The Governor has asked that all state and local governments, interested organizations, groups and individuals join him in honor of those who died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor.
“The attack on Pearl Harbor, 69 years ago, was a significant moment in the life of our country,” Crist said. “Unifying our people as our nation entered World War II, the events of that Sunday morning set a course for a strong and emboldened United States of America.”
Pearl Harbor will be remembered as a time of mourning for the lives lost, and we will continue to honor their memory and always remember their incredible service and patriotic spirit.
“As Floridians, we are proud to honor all veterans,” Crist said. “We are indebted to all servicemen and women for their steadfast commitment to protect the ideals and freedoms that make our country strong.”
They set an example for us today, as the men and women in our Armed Forces continue their noble tradition of courage, bravery, and dedication.
“May God continue to bless Florida, our nation, our armed forces, our veterans and their families,” Crist said.
