The Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine announced to Historic City News this morning its schedule of Masses for Ash Wednesday and additional special services during the season of Lent.
On Ash Wednesday, February 25th, ashes will be blessed and distributed during Mass at 7:00 a.m., 12:00 noon and 6:00 p.m. In addition, ashes will be distributed during the 8:15 a.m. Mass that is celebrated for the children of Cathedral Parish School.
During the season of Lent, a forty day period which Christians use to prepare for the celebrations of Christ’s passion, death and resurrection, the Cathedral will also offer an additional Mass on Friday’s at 12:00 noon.
Mass is regularly scheduled in the Cathedral at 7:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
Stations of the Cross, a traditional feature of Lenten devotional life in the Catholic Church, will be held on Friday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the Cathedral.
On Tuesday evenings during Lent, the Cathedral will have a Holy Hour beginning at 7:00 p.m. that will include Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. This time of prayer will be centered on the sacredness of life and ask God’s blessings and guidance on all efforts to respect and preserve life from the moment of conception to natural death.
The Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine is located at 38 Cathedral Place (the corner of Cathedral Place and St. George Street) in downtown St. Augustine.
