Woman arrested for cocaine possession

April 17, 2008

A 34 year old St. Augustine woman is in custody today under 10,000.00 bail and facing charges of cocaine possession.

The driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe in the area of Four Mile Road and Ervin Street was stopped for violation of a traffic control device about 10:00 p.m. last night.

Detectives observed the vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at North 9th Street and SR 16. The driver was issued a written warning for that offense by Deputy Josh Underwood.

The passenger, Danielle Grimes, was detained for questioning by the detectives. She was placed in the rear of Deputy Shane Tolerico’s patrol vehicle until she could be interviewed.

A female deputy was summoned to the scene to search Grimes for weapons; at which time she was about to be released.

After she exited Tolerico’s patrol vehicle, the deputy searched the rear seat. Under the cushion of the seat was found a small pill bottle that contained a white, flaky substance which tested positive for cocaine.

Grimes was taken into custody without incident according to the police report.

$10,000 “bail” for a small pill box bottle of cocaine found not on her person, but under the seat where she sat?

There’s got to be more to this story.

Seems a bit much, doesn’t it?

Maybe there might be a valid reason to deem her a flight risk, that wasn’t reported?

I checked a bit further - lots of priors, including two counts of sale of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a church in 2005 and again in 2007; VOP for possession with intent to sell marijuana in 2006; driving with license revoked in 2006; and more.

Got something to say?
