Kevin Kelshaw reported to Historic City News that two men were arrested by Sheriff’s deputies in connection with two armed robberies early this morning.
The two suspects were identified as Charles E. Cue, 21, 706 N. 15th St., Palatka, and Gregory C. Hester Jr., 19, 201 Garden Center Way. Both are charged with two counts of armed robbery. In addition, Cue is charged with one count of fleeing and attempting to elude.
The investigation began shortly before 1:00 a.m., when an employee of Five Star Pizza reported an armed robbery.
The 29-year old female victim had delivered a pizza to a residence in the 800 block of Hamilton St., and after getting into her car, a male subject with his face covered, got into the passenger seat, brandished a handgun and demanded money and her cell phone.
The victim gave the suspect a small amount of cash and he ordered her to drive south on Hamilton St. to Helen St. where the suspect got out and the victim sped away to safety.
She returned to the restaurant where she called the Sheriff’s Office. The victim was able to describe a green Ford passenger car with a tag number that was in the area and possibly related.
As deputies canvassed the area a second robbery was reported in the 600 block of Julia St. at 1:40 a.m.
The 20-year old female victim stated that she and her boyfriend were standing in front of the residence when they observed a green Ford pass by three times. On the fourth pass, a male subject jumped out of the rear driver’s side and pointed a handgun at the two demanding money.
The unnamed boyfriend intervened and the suspect got back into the vehicle and as they were leaving the suspect fired shots towards the victims.
Deputies located the vehicle on Four Mile Rd. a short time later and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspects refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed westbound on S.R. 16.
Additional deputies deployed “stop sticks” near IGP which flattened the suspects’ tires and causing them to stop.
They were taken into custody without further incident.
Deputies also recovered the handgun allegedly used in the robberies that had been thrown out of the window during the pursuit on Four Mile Rd.
The two suspects were booked into the County Jail awaiting a first appearance hearing.
