Arrest in capital sexual battery case

Ricky Luke
According to a report received by Historic City News this morning, a 39-year old St. Johns County man was arrested on a charge of capital sexual battery Tuesday evening. Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw says that the suspect, identified as Ricky Eugene Luke, 39, was booked into the County Jail where he remains on $100,000 bond following a first appearance hearing this morning.

The victim, who is under the age of 12, was with the suspect at his St. Augustine Shores residence while the girl’s mother went to the store at 6:00 p.m. When she returned thirty minutes later the victim told her that the suspect allegedly forced her to perform oral sex on him. There was evidence found on the girl that allegedly confirmed her account of the incident, although additional DNA testing would be required.

The victim’s mother told the victim to go to the car and the mother confronted the suspect about the allegation. The suspect denied the incident and began a verbal argument with her. She then went outside and called the Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect was questioned and then arrested. Additional charges are pending further investigation.
