The St. Johns County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the cause of death in this morning’s discovery of a white male found lying face down in a retention pond on the south side of State Road 16.
This afternoon Sgt. Chuck Mulligan reported to Historic City News that the St. Johns County Sheriff’s office was notified by a resident in the area who says that he observed an unfamiliar silver bicycle parked in a small clearing on the side of the roadway near the pond where he usually goes fishing. Upon looking around the pond, the resident said that he spotted the body and called authorities.
The deceased man is reported to be 45 year old Richard Henry McCormick, Jr., of St. Augustine; according to the report filed by Deputy Jason Swartzberg.
St. Johns County Rescue 12 responded to the scene and reported that McCormick was dead upon their arrival. The body has been transferred to the Medical Examiner’s Office and the cause and manner of death is under investigation at this time.
