Fruit Cove woman startles burglar
Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw notified Historic City News that a male suspect is being sought by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office in connection with a burglary of an occupied residence in the 1100 block of Ashmore Dr. that occurred earlier this afternoon.
Deputies responded to the residence at 12:10 p.m. when a woman reported that she was awakened by an intruder.
The victim told deputies that she was resting in a bedroom when she heard a noise and sat up in the bed. She says that she observed a man looking into her bedroom from the hall. When he spotted her, the victim says that he fled out the front door in an unknown direction.
The investigation revealed that the suspect kicked open a back door to gain entry to the occupied residence. Deputies report that when the burglar discovered the victim; he fled without taking anything.
The suspect was described as a white male in his late teens to early 20’s, between 5’7†and 5’10†tall with medium complexion. He was said to be wearing dark sunglasses and had dark, neatly trimmed hair.
Deputies searched the area on the ground, with a K-9 Unit and in the air but were unable to locate the subject. The investigation is continuing.
