Human remains discovered

Historic City News was informed that detectives with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of human skeletal remains in a wooded area north of S.R. 312 early this afternoon.

According to a report from Kevin Kelshaw, Media Relations Officer. the remains were found by a couple of transients who were walking in the wooded area located just east of S.R. 207.

The Sheriff’s Office was notified of the grizzly discovery shortly after 1:00 p.m. today.

It is believed that the remains may have been there for as much as 4-6 weeks; due to the decomposition.

The identity of the remains is unknown at this time but is believed to be a male.

The cause of death is unknown and under investigation at this time.
