Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw reported to Historic City News this afternoon that a man and woman are being sought in connection with the theft of lottery tickets from four convenience stores as well as an attempted theft of tickets from another store at different locations around the county.
The couple targeted Kangaroo stores at five locations with the first occurring shortly after 2:30 p.m. yesterday in the 6700 block of U.S. 1 South. The 21-year old female clerk stated the couple requested several scratch-off lottery tickets and the male subject began to pay with a credit card. When the clerk advised that the lottery was cash only, the female snatched the tickets and both subjects fled the store.
The next incident occurred at the Kangaroo store in the 4300 block of A1A South around 3:00 p.m. when a couple entered the store and requested two different $20 tickets and two $5 tickets. The clerk placed the four tickets on the counter and they were picked up by the female. She began to walk outside and the male subject requested to pay with a credit card. When told he would need cash, the male subject stated he had some in the car and walked outside and the two left.
The third incident occurred between 4:00-4:30 p.m. at the Kangaroo at 70 Masters Dr. The 46-year old female clerk stated that the couple requested two $5 and two $20 scratch-off tickets. The female grabbed the tickets and the male subject attempted to pay with a gift card. When the clerk told the subject the lottery only accepted cash, he fled out the store and got into a dark colored pick-up truck.
The next incident occurred at the Kangaroo in the 700 block of S.R. 207 shortly after 6:00 p.m. The female clerk stated that the two entered the store and placed a candy bar and an ice on the counter and requested a $30 and a $20 scratch-off lottery ticket. The clerk placed the tickets on the counter and the female grabbed them and walked out of the store. The male subject told the clerk that he would have to run to his car to get cash and the two fled.
Finally, shortly after 11:00 p.m. Thursday, the two entered the Kangaroo store in Hastings (8700 block of E. Church St.) and approached the counter with drinks and food. They then requested numerous different scratch-off lottery tickets and the clerk placed them on the counter. When the female reached for the tickets the alert clerk grabbed them and advised that they needed to be paid for before they could have them. The two then walked in and out of the store a couple of times before attempting to purchase the tickets with a credit card. When advised they could only get them with cash the two left the store in a pick-up truck eastbound on S.R. 207.
The male suspect was described as a white male between 20-35 years old, 5’7â€-5’9†tall and wearing a white t-shirt with a design on the front, a red ball cap and sunglasses. The other suspect was a white female who had blonde hair and a green tank top.
Lottery Officials have voided any of the stolen tickets that may have been winners as the investigation continues.
