The St. Johns County Recreation and Parks Department has announced to Historic City News that the following youth activities are planned for this fall.

Half Pints Skillastics – Join us for this fun-filled program! This innovative new program combines physical education standards in a cross curricular, non-competitive game that children of any athletic ability will enjoy. This program is for pre-school age children 3 and 4 years old. The class includes six weekly sessions on Wednesdays from 12 to 1 p.m. at Ketterlinus Gymnasium beginning October 1 and going through November 5. Registration will begin Monday, September 15 and close on Friday, September 26. The fee for the program is $15.
Shooting Starz Club – Parents of children with Autism can join the Recreation and Parks the second Friday of every month at Ketterlinus Gymnasium for a night filled with fun. Parents can discuss new treatments, therapies and more with a specialist, while the children enjoy stimulating activities organized by the Recreation staff. The Program starts Friday, September 12, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Call (904) 209-0346 for more information.
Early Steps Playgroup – Come join in the fun with the St. Johns County Early Steps Playgroup. Parents can meet other families and get ideas on how to work with your child, while kids have a great time participating in crafts, music play, games, story time and more. Early Steps offers early intervention services for families with infants and toddlers (birth to thirty-six months) who have developmental delays, and this program is administered by Children’s Medical Services. The Playgroup will start Thursday, September 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Ketterlinus Gymnasium. Call (904) 360-7022 ex 351 for more information.
Teen Club Night! Middle school students are invited to join the Recreation and Parks Staff on the third Saturday of every month for some of the most exciting games around. Join in the fun of Glow-In-the-Dark Dodge Ball, Beach Blanket Volleyball, Capture the Flag, Scatter Ball and more. The first Teen Club Night will be Saturday, September 20, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Ketterlinus Gymnasium. Participation forms will be available online at www.sjcfl.us/youth starting Monday, September 15, or at the Ketterlinus Gym door on Saturday night.
Basketball Skillastics – All 7 and 8 year olds can bounce into the fun with Basketball Skillastics! Basketball Skillastics teaches players the basic skills they will need for basketball in a fun, non-competitive environment. Classes will be held on Saturdays from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Ketterlinus Gym. Classes will begin October 4 and end on October 25. The program fee is $15 per participant. Youth Basketball – The St. Johns County Recreation and Parks Department Youth Basketball League is perfect for your 9 to 14 year old who just can’t stop bouncing that ball! Registration will begin on October 1 and end on November 1. Tryouts will be held at Ketterlinus Gymnasium on Saturday, November 1, 2008. All participants at tryouts will be placed on a team.
