In the first presidential election since 1928 without an incumbent president or vice president seeking the nomination, St. Johns County will have a strong presence at the 2008 Republican National Convention with three St. Johns County residences being chosen as delegates.
Historic City News was informed by St. Johns County GOP Chairman Bob Veit that Republican leaders from around the Congressional District conducted the Delegate Caucus for which three delegates and three alternates were chosen to represent the voters of the Congressional District. Jon Woodard, the St. Johns County Republican State Committeeman, was selected by the 7th Congressional District Delegate Selection Caucus.
“It is an honor to have been chosen to represent the Republican voters of the 7th Congressional District at the RNC Convention,†said Woodard. “I am excited about the opportunity to participate in this historic event, and I pledge to be a strong conservative voice at the convention.
Woodard is a resident of St. Augustine and also serves as the National Executive Director for the Young Republican National Federation, and he’s co-owner of a public relations firm based in St. Augustine.
Recently, St. Johns County Republicans Susan Wiles and Ken Underwood, both of Ponte Vedra Beach, were selected as delegates at large by the Republican Party of Florida’s state executive board.
The RNC Convention will take place September 1- 4, 2008, at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown Saint Paul, Minnesota.
