Support proposed Lincolnville Community Garden

Historic City News is pleased to have discovered a new “grass roots” community effort which is very easy to recommend — the proposed Lincolnville Community Garden.

Organizers Cash McVay and Kevin Lang met with City Commissioner Errol Jones last Wednesday to express the impressive community interest and support which they have encountered in this endeavor.

Apparently the meeting went well since we are informed that Commissioner Jones is interested in sponsoring the Lincolnville garden. We are told that city staff is starting the process that will hopefully result in approval for the garden.

“Our expectation is for the garden to be ready to plant by February” said McVay. “We will have a concept plan & location map that will be posted and available for viewing by the middle of next week” according to a statement posted on the project’s website.

Cash S. McVay is to be commended for taking the initiative to better the Lincolnville neighborhood and educate the community on the importance of such a project; the stated purpose of which is to generate ideas, organize people & action plans to implement food and gardening programs throughout the neighborhoods of St. Augustine.
