Deputy Sheriff Rachel Soles was called to Lighthouse Toyota to take a report of two vehicles discovered missing from the dealership’s lot on on U.S. 1 South.
According to the comptroller, after making an extensive search on April 21, it was determined that a blue 2004 Buick LeSabre valued at $9,891.21 and a black 2006 Volkswagen Jetta valued at $16,356.72 were missing – and presumed stolen.
Historic City Media interviewed John Golden who reported the vehicles missing. No one within the dealership had the vehicle checked out to them according to the incident report filed Wednesday.
Golden told us that the reason for the delay in reporting the apparent theft was to contact a salesman who previously had the Volkswagen “checked out” – to be certain that there had been no mistake made.
Golden explained that the dealership periodically uses a scan gun to verify the location of all automobiles in inventory and that this is the first time that he could remember any cars missing or stolen from the long time St. Augustine dealer.
