In an press release received this morning by Historic City Media from the Office of Public Affairs of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, we were informed of the current break-down of property tax distribution locally.
As all government agencies are making difficult decisions in response to tax reform and decreasing tax revenues, St. Johns County officials are encouraging citizens to remain informed of and active in the local government process.
One step citizens can take to become educated about property tax is to learn where their tax dollars go:
For every $100 of Property Tax Paid:
Schools receive $53.
Sheriff’s Operations receive $14
Fire Protection Services receive $8
Transportation receives $6
Special Districts receive $5
All Other County Services receive $14
