THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center in Ponte Vedra Beach will be hosting a special Wii Golf Tournament on Friday, November 21, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm according an announcement received by Historic City News this weekend.
Teams of senior competitors will be led by 2005 PLAYERS Champion Fred Funk and PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. The tournament is part of THE PLAYERS Giving Back Week and celebrates THE PLAYERS support of the Community Senior Center.
THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center opened in June 2007 as a successful public/private partnership of the St. Johns County Recreation and Parks Department, the St. Johns County Council on Aging and THE PLAYERS Championship.
The Landrum Lane facility offers numerous programs to senior citizens, including exercise and music classes, computer access, bingo, bridge groups, meals, field trips, trivia and more. A recent activity popular with the seniors is a Wii bowling league, which provides active entertainment while also offering social and health benefits.
Troy Blevins, Director of St. Johns County Recreation and Parks, is pleased with the success of the Community Senior Center and appreciates the County’s partnership with the Council on Aging and THE PLAYERS. “The Ponte Vedra community benefits from the Center and the unique programming we offer,†he said. “This facility is a great example of the County working with the non-profit (the Council on Aging) and private sectors (THE PLAYERS Championship) to fill a community need.â€
The Wii Golf Tournament will include two teams playing the last four holes of THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, concluding with an outdoor “putt-off†on the Community Senior Center’s new putting green, recently donated by THE PLAYERS. The Tournament will be complete with a spectator gallery, an honorary Red Coat Starter/Announcer and a trophy presentation.
