Marsha Chance reported to Historic City News this morning that on May 5th, the St. Augustine Archaeological Association will present a lecture by Dr. Henri D. Grissino-Mayer.
Dr. Grissino-Mayer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Tennessee and Director of the university’s Laboratory of Tree-Ring Science.
He received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona and is a very active and productive scientist in his field.
He was awarded the Chancellor’s Award for Professional Promise in Research and Creative Achievement in 2005.
His research has focused on the use of tree-ring science to study wildfires, climate change, ecosystem disturbance, and the ages of historical and archaeological structures, including the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum here in St. Augustine.
Dr. Grissino-Mayer has published many papers on his studies, and has appeared on the History Channel, the Discovery Channel, the Learning Channel, the Weather Channel, the National Geographic Channel and Court TV.
His lecture is expected to be educational and entertaining.
Dr. Grissino-Mayer will appear on May 5 at 7:00 PM, in the Flagler Room at Flagler College. The public is invited to attend this lecture which is being presented jointly with the Florida Archaeology Network.
