St. Johns County Fire Rescue Public Information Officer Jeremy Robshaw reported to Historic City News that Monday afternoon, firefighters responded to a structure fire at Sand Dollar II condominium complex near Crescent Beach.
Sand Dollar II condominium is located at 7990 A1A South and is one of four Sand Dollar condominiums in the complex.
There was light smoke showing when firefighters arrived on the scene of the multi-story oceanfront condominium building.
First responders made access to a condominium unit on the second story and found active fire burning behind a bathroom wall.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and partially contained the fire into the wall space; preventing further spread.
Additional firefighters, conducting a floor-by-floor search of the building, found visible smoke on several floors above the fire unit.
Emergency personnel implemented a complete evacuation of the building until the fire could be totally contained.
The building was safely evacuated and firefighters were able to confirm that all fire had been extinguished after an extensive search of the structure.
Residents were allowed to return to their condominium units without further incident.
There were no injuries reported during this occurrence — the cause of the fire is under investigation by St. Johns County Fire Rescue.
