Flagler era fountain dedicated Wednesday

The City of St. Augustine reported to Historic City News that a ceremony was held yesterday to dedicate one of the three Flagler era fountains.

The fountain located at the present St. Augustine Fire Station, 101 Malaga St., was dedicated to Capt. David M. Ledford and all firefighters of the St. Augustine Fire Department. Ledford retired from the City of St. Augustine in 2001 after 32 years of service.

The project was adopted by Colin Bingham, president of Econowaste, Inc., Jacksonville and Ledford’s son-in-law. Also contributing to the restoration were Parryman Stucco and Johnny Rogero, both of St. Augustine

Other Flagler era fountains which have been restored but not yet dedicated include the fountain west of Government House between King Street and Cathedral Place which was restored by John Valdes and his company John Valdes and Associates, William Putnam, Duane Gilrie, Stuart George, Wayne Ferrell and Tim Wine. It was restored in memory of Desmond R. Valdes, John’s brother.

The fountain south of the Lightner Building was restored through the efforts of Billy Angyalfy, his company Angyalfy Construction, Matt Baker, John Valdes, Jim Young and Doug Wiles. This work was done in memory of Mr. Angyalfy’s son J. Brent Angyalfy.
