City archaeologist presents art colony evidence

Carl Halbirt, City Archaeologist, will give a lecture on the archaeological evidence of art and culture in early St. Augustine, Thursday, Jan. 29, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the St. Augustine Art Assocation, 22 Marine Street.

Halbirt will unveil artifacts excavated in 1999 prior to the renovation of the Art Association building. Colonial era pottery, Native American vessels and materials from Drakes’ raid will be on display as Halbirt shares his remarkable findings.

Made possible in part by a grant from the Florida Humanities Council, the FREE lecture is the second offering in the “St. Augustine: Our Artistic Heritage Series.”

Space is limited, so please call the Art Association at (904) 824-2310 to reserve a seat. Free parking is available behind the Lightner Museum and on the street after 5 p.m.
