City Chief Operations Officer John Regan reported to Historic City news and the city commissioners last week that flooding along King Street, from the San Sebastian Bridge to Malaga Street, can be corrected, and will be next year.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has analyzed the area and plans to bid out reconstruction of the area next May for an anticipated six-month project.
“It’s possible FDOT will extend its work to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue,” Regan added, “but that’s not definite.”
Regan also responded to concerns about recent flooding on the east end of the Bridge of Lions project, saying it’s been caused by “gutter gators,” rings placed around gutters to block debris during construction. “We’re assured drainage will be improved once they’re removed,” he said.
Regan added that all construction projects in and about the city are being planned to avoid conflicts when our commemoration period begins.
