SJSO Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw reported to Historic City News that two men have been arrested and a third is being sought after they led investigators on a chase that sent one of the suspects to the hospital.
The two were wanted for an armed robbery earlier in the night, and were suspects in a similar robbery in Ponte Vedra.
Investigators say the two, William Henry Gardner, 20, and Zachary Daniel Hisle, 19, were arrested by St. Augustine Beach Police after a short pursuit.
Investigators are also looking for a 16-year-old teenager who was acting as a second “lookout” vehicle.
According to a report, around 2:30 Saturday morning, a clerk at a Kangaroo convenience store in the 300 block of A1A in St. Augustine Beach called police to report a robbery.
The clerk said one of the suspects came into the store, pulled out a handgun, pointed it at him and demanded money.
The clerk told detectives he gave the suspect the demanded money, then the suspect fled on foot and got into a car.
When a deputy noticed the car described by the clerk, he tried to pull it over, but the driver sped off.
The two led police on a chase westbound on State Road 312.
Police say the suspects eventually stopped the car and fled into some nearby woods in the 700 block of state Road 207.
Investigators arrested the two after a K-9 unit located the suspects.
Gardener was bitten by the dog and transported to the hospital where he was treated and released for a dog bite.
Police said the two suspects admitted to the earlier robbery in Ponte Vedra Beach and charges are pending further investigation.
