Historic City News has learned that yesterday, Governor Charlie Crist recognized Ralph and Jean Pennington of St. Augustine as Points of Light for Senior and Military Awareness Month.
“Ralph and Jean’s selfless volunteerism continues to inspire the servicemembers responsible for defending our country,” said Governor Crist. “The Pennington’s lifetime commitment and dedication to helping others truly makes them each a Point of Light in the lives of all who know them.”
Ralph, who served four years in the United States Army, and his wife Jean Pennington, are dedicated volunteers to supporting servicemembers and their families.
The retired couple often travels to Camp Blanding to volunteer their time and effort. Their contributions to the Florida National Guard include helping with cookouts for soldiers during training, assisting with landscaping at the office and additional services for family members.
Ralph and Jean also contribute considerable time to military family programs and at Yellow Ribbon events across the state.
Regardless of the location, the couple is always prepared to travel at a moment’s notice to serve members of the Florida National Guard and their families.
AAA Auto Club South is the supporting sponsor of the Governor’s Points of Light Award. This program recognizes Florida residents who demonstrate exemplary service to the community. Award recipients are announced weekly.
A panel of judges comprised of leaders in the areas of volunteerism and service evaluate all nominations and make recommendations to the Governor. The Volunteer Florida Foundation manages the program.
