St. Augustine Cycling Festival 2009

St. Johns County Recreation and Parks invites bicyclists of all ages to take part in the St. Augustine Cycling Festival this Saturday and Sunday, September 12th and 13th, according to an announcement received by Historic City News.

The festival is a two-day event featuring three main events: a Bicycle Expo, the RiverTown Omnium and the 20th annual Endless Summer Watermelon Ride. Learn more about all activities at www.staugustinecyclingfestival.com.

Bicycle Expo
· St. Augustine Amphitheatre, Saturday noon to 7pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
· Test ride bicycles from a number of manufacturers and shop for bikes, cycling apparel, accessories and training services.
· Free children’s cycling safety class Saturday at 2pm for children K-3, conducted by the Florida Bicycle Association.
· Free film Endless Summer at the Amphitheatre at 7pm.

RiverTown Omnium
· Amateur and professional bicycle racing, as part of the Florida Cycling Point Series.
· Criterium, a closed-course high-speed race, begins at 11am on Saturday at the St. Johns County government complex on Lewis Speedway.
· On Sunday at Bartram Trail High School, individual time-trials begin at 7:30am followed by road racing at 11am.

20th Annual Endless Summer Watermelon Ride
· Recreational and training ride featuring scenic routes along the St. Johns River and beachfront roadways.
· Rides vary from 30 to 100 miles, fully supported with rest stops, maintenance and cyclist assistance services.
· All riders depart from the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Sunday between 7:30 and 8:30 am. Loops will return to the Amphitheatre.

The St. Augustine Cycling Festival has been a collaborative project by St. Johns County Recreation and Parks, The St Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches Visitors and Convention Bureau, Florida Cycling, TopView Sports, VeloBrew Cycling Club, North Florida Bicycle Club and the St Joe Company (developers of RiverTown).
