St. Augustine Youth Services reported to Historic City News that their agency is very close to achieving their dream of building a new campus — targeted for completion in 2010.
In the 20 years since its creation, SAYS has been quietly serving emotionally disturbed young people but have outgrown their current home which is nestled on residential Saragossa Street.
SAYS tells us that the new facility, which is close to a middle school, high school and emergency services, will offer desperately needed additional space in which their residents can live, learn and grow.
Once operations are relocated to the new campus on Lewis Speedway, SAYS current home will be converted to apartments for young adults in their program.
Ten years of fund raising has brought the agency more than $1 million. The permitting process for the Lewis Speedway location is nearly complete.
SAYS is a nonprofit organization serving boys 6 to 18 years-old who are in residential therapeutic services due to abuse or neglect.
Its staff of 40 employees includes a board-certified child psychiatrist, licensed clinical psychologist, master’s level therapist, licensed mental health counselor, trained houseparents and a youth counselor.
In addition to the Saragossa Street location, SAYS has a TRAILS Program in St. Augustine Shores.
