The Red Cross heroes campaign

Kyle Rouse and Bev Slough reported to Historic City News that as part of the Northeast Florida Chapter of the American Red Cross, the St. Johns Service Center (SJSC) will be undertaking the first local Red Cross Heroes Campaign.

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter, provides education to help residents prevent and prepare for disasters. The Red Cross also provides relief to disaster victims and responds to emergencies within our community.

The SJSC focuses on health & safety training, support services for the military and their families, as well as disaster preparedness and relief.

The Red Cross Heroes Campaign has been successfully implemented in many Red Cross chapters across the country. The goal of the campaign is to raise a minimum of $25,000 to be used for St. Johns County residents and to increase the visibility of the organization.

With the hurricane season approaching and our coastal geography, disaster relief and assistance to our local families could be monumental. We would be honored if you would consider being a Hero for our community.

Your help enables us to support our vital services throughout our community.

You can become a Hero by agreeing to raise at least $500 for St. Johns County. The funds can be raised in a variety of ways and the Red Cross has many examples of possible methods. You may work alone or may choose to involve your company, civic club, church, or school in the fund raising efforts.

The Heroes Campaign will begin with a special kick-off breakfast on Friday, August 8, 2009 along with an ad featuring our Heroes in The St. Augustine Record. The campaign runs for three weeks and ends with a celebration luncheon on Friday, August 28, 2009 honoring our Heroes. The venue for the breakfast and luncheon will be announced at a later date.
