Traffic stop leads to burglary arrest

A local man was arrested on charges of burglary to a structure and grand theft Monday evening according to a media release received by Historic City News this morning from Kevin Kelshaw, Media Relations Officer with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, identified as 27 year old Brandon Neil Nesloney who resides on Hill Top Road, was booked into the County Jail where he remains in lieu of $2,000 bond following a first appearance hearing Tuesday morning.

Deputy Anthony Borra was on routine patrol when he observed a 1996 Nissan with an improper muffler traveling west on S.R. 16, just west of U.S. 1.

The deputy got behind the vehicle and conducted a computer check on the tag which revealed it was not assigned to that vehicle. The deputy then conducted a traffic stop.

While speaking with the driver, the deputy observed a cash register drawer with cash in the back seat.

When questioned about the drawer, the subject told the deputy that he was a manager for the Texaco Express Lube and was transferring money from one store to another.

The deputy contacted the St. Augustine Police Department who dispatched Officer John Sheets to the business to verify the subject’s story.

The officer discovered that the business had been entered by force so the suspect was arrested by the deputy.

In addition to a small amount of cash, deputies located several tools that allegedly belonged to the business in the vehicle.

Nesloney was booked into the County Jail on burglary and grand theft charges as well as issued a citation for having a tag that was not assigned to the vehicle on which it was displayed.
