Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford of the St. Augustine Police Department reported to Historic City News that an investigation is ongoing into a shooting that occurred yesterday afternoon.
Police responded to the area of the 30th block of Nesmith Avenue where they were informed by witnesses that a 17 year-old black male had been shot and was transported to Flagler Hospital by a neighbor.
The victim told police that he was sitting in a vehicle in his driveway when he saw a white Chrysler convertible drive by with three black male occupants.
As the victim was getting out of the car he heard gun shots and realized that he had been shot. A neighbor heard the gun fire and went outside to investigate.
The neighbor found the victim on the ground yelling that he was just shot. The neighbor took him to the hospital.
The victim suffered a gun shot wound to the buttocks. He was treated and released from the hospital last night.
Evidence was collected at the scene as well as sworn statements from several eye witnesses to the shooting. The investigation is on going.
