Project Manager Nick Perpich in the St. Johns County Engineering Division reported to Historic City News that beginning today and lasting for approximately the next four months, the westbound lane of West King Street will be closed between US 1 and Palmer Street/Pellicer Lane.
The road closure allows for a construction project to rebuild the stormwater drainage system, upgrade water and sewer utilities and install a new mast arm traffic signal at the intersection of West King Street and Palmer Street/Pellicer Lane.
During the road closure, detour signs will direct motorists south on US 1, west on State Road 207, and north on Old Dixie Highway to Pellicer Lane until they return to West King Street.
The infrastructure improvements are a joint project of St. Johns County, the City of St. Augustine and a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation. S.E. Cline Construction will be performing the work.
Barring any material, labor or weather delays, the entire project is scheduled to be completed in early 2010.
