Flagler College alumnus Logan Abrams will be making a presentation on his new book, “Debt U: How Higher Education Breeds a Lifestyle of Debt,” on Wednesday, March 31 at 7 p.m. in the Flagler Room at Flagler College.
Abrams said that his book addresses the speed at which “normal” students are amassing debt and the powerful effect it has on their lives. “In my book, I tackle the problem of debt head on,” he said. “I’ve included life experiences, anecdotes and startling statistics. It’s an unsettling picture for the future of my generation – and the next group of students who follow.”
Abrams wants people to know that his book isn’t all gloom and doom. “I include many types of solutions for almost every issue involving debt,” he said.
He notes that his book is useful for anyone who has amassed debt, but his target population is the parents of children who are heading to college and students who are preparing to graduate from college, yet find themselves in serious debt as they head into the real world.
“I feel like my generation is heading down the wrong path because of our lack of understanding of personal finance,” he said. “The rising costs of college are compounding that effect.”
Michael Scine, CPA and professor of accounting at Flagler, said that “Debt U’ delves deep into one of America’s most troubling financial issues with a truly fresh perspective, highlighting not just the problems surrounding the high cost of higher education, but also its profound post-graduation effects.”
Abrams is an author, entrepreneur, debt connoisseur and business owner. He is knowledgeable, experienced and passionate about changing the harmful effects debt is having on America’s young adults. Logan currently lives in Charlotte, NC, with his wife, Christine.
