Local St. Johns County reporters at Historic City News learned that two men were taken into custody in connection with several car burglaries that occurred over last weekend.
The two suspects, identified as Andrew Michael Hillgardner, 20, no address, and Scott Andrew Small, 18, 1194 Harmony Dr., were booked into the County Jail. Hillgardner is still in jail in lieu of bonds totaling $1,500 and Small in lieu of bonds totaling $9,000.
Monday morning, several car burglaries were reported that occurred between Sunday night and early Monday morning in the area off Fruit Cove Rd.
Monday afternoon, SJSO deputies located Hillgardner staying in a vacant home in the 1100 block of Harmony Dr. South. When they discovered items allegedly belonging to the victims of the nearby vehicle burglaries, Hillgardner was taken into custody and charged with burglary to a conveyance and larceny.
During the investigation, the second subject, Scott A. Small, was identified and was located Wednesday by SJSO Youth Resource Deputies. Property Crimes Unit detectives questioned Small and charged him with three counts of burglary to a conveyance.
Detectives believe that Hillgardner and Small could be connected to at least five recent car burglaries in the Fruit Cove area and each faces additional charges as detectives continue the investigation.
