Local St. Augustine reporters at Historic City News have learned that last Friday morning, Police Officer Jeff Collins responded to the Learn to Read Center located at 70 South Dixie Highway to investigate the theft of two air conditioners.
The manager told police that she was notified that water was coming from her business.
When she arrived at the Learn to Read Center, she found that both of her air conditioners had been stolen and the main water pipe had been broken.
The manger told Officer Collins that this was the second time both her air conditioners had been stolen from this location. The units had been bolted to the ground; however, the investigation revealed that someone cut the units free using bolt cutters or a similar tool.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that the total amount stolen was about $3,200. Evidence was taken from the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
