Historic City News local reporters have learned that a St. Johns County teenager was arrested yesterday afternoon in connection with making a false bomb threat against her high school the day before.
The 14 year-old girl was charged with making a false bomb threat, booked into the St. Johns County Detention Facility and then released by Juvenile Justice authorities to a parent.
The investigation began Tuesday shortly before 1:00 p.m. when a receptionist at St. Augustine High School received a phone call announcing that “there is a bomb in the school”. The caller quickly hung up the phone.
School Officials ordered an evacuation of the campus. Students and teachers were directed to the football stadium where they remained for nearly two and a half hours.
A Sheriff’s Office explosive sniffing K-9 responded to the school as well as two K-9’s from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
A sweep was made of the entire school. At 3:30 p.m. students were allowed back into the school.
During the investigation, a student approached the School Resource Deputy to identify another student who allegedly made the bomb threat call. The teenage student was located and questioned; however, she denied making the call and was released.
Thursday morning, additional witnesses were located and questioned. All confirmed that the teenage girl questioned the day before, was in fact the individual that called in the threat. The teenager was again questioned with a parent present and admitted to making the call. She was arrested and released to a parent.
