While cabbage and sod are Flagler’s staple crops today, the potato remains an important agricultural feature and iconic figure of the county’s agricultural heritage and for more than a century, the spud was a staple crop in the Western part of Flagler County — chiefly grown for potato chips.
Thanks to the Bunnell Chamber of Commerce, the City of Bunnell and the City of Bunnell Community Redevelopment Agency, the potato will have its day in the sun at the Second Annual Potato Festival on Saturday, May 15th. The event is guaranteed to be a mashing good time for kids of all ages.
The festival presented by Vasilaros & Politis, P.A. will take place in downtown Bunnell from 9 AM to 6 PM. It will feature free children’s activities and games, the Inaugural Ride for Education, meat & potatoes cook off, pageant to crown Bunnell’s lovely “Potato Princesses,” mashed potato eating contest, mashed potato sculpting contest, beer garden, live music and some of the best homemade french fries you have ever tasted!
